Success Story Of Delhivery: From A Small Startup To Logistics Giant

success story of Delhivery

It’s not every day that we come across companies that not only revolutionize industries but also people’s lives. Delhivery is one such Unicorn startup that has completely changed the face of the logistics sector in our country. However, the founders of Delhivery – Sahil Barua and Suraj Saharan never thought that they would be able to make such a big difference in the logistical system when they started off. Want to know about their story?

Let’s delve deeper into the inspiring journey of Delhivery and learn how did the company reach the pinnacle of success.

How did it begin

It all started in 2011 when one fine day, late at night, Sahil Barua and Suraj Saharan decided to order some food from a nearby restaurant in Gurgaon and they ended up having a chat with a delivery boy, who told them about a serious problem of unemployment that was soon going to break out in his life. This made the two men rush down to the restaurant and talk to its owner. When Sahil and Suraj found out that the place was about to shut down they undertook the duty of hiring all the staff working there. And that’s how Delhivery was born.

Initially, the company started off as a platform, which used to deliver food within an hour. Later, Barua and Saharan gradually expanded their wings to the B2B sector, where they began providing warehousing, transportation, and delivery services. The duo was later joined by three more brilliant minds including Mohit Tandon, Bhavesh Manglani, and Kapil Bharati in their journey to success. The first e-commerce client for Delhivery was Urban Touch, and since then, there has been no looking back for the founders.

Obstacles In The Road Of Delhivery

When Sahil and Suraj founded Delhivery, Indian consumers were still not ready to trust online shopping. The market was apprehensive about e-commerce platforms, especially for daily chores. Companies were not fully accepting of a digital business model in the logistics sector. People used to give preference to hiring physical couriers to ship their products even though they knew tracking shipments was an arduous task back then. Not only this, the competition was also quite stiff for the founders of Delhivery with Blue Dart, FedEx, and BlackBuck already leading the logistics business in the country.

Overcoming The Challenges

Despite these challenges, Delhivery carved out a niche for itself by expanding its delivery network and pricing its services economically. It has now established itself among India’s largest B2B, B2C, and C2C logistics courier companies with a vast supply chain infrastructure.

If you look closely at the journey of Delhivery so far, you will see that it has come a long way. The company, which was started on such a small scale with a team of just 5 members, now employs more than 5,000 people and has a valuation of more than $1 billion. It has quickly become the biggest courier company in the country and is continuing to grow at a spectacular pace. All thanks to the hard work and dedication of Delhivery founders who aimed to provide excellent services to their customers and develop innovative technology solutions for them.
